heroes and things

Download the entire edition

Historical and cultural studies usually define heroes and their deeds in terms of human autonomy and agency. This approach has a long tradition that includes well-known discussions of heroes and heroism like those proposed by Hegel and Carlyle. The contributions to this issue take another perspective, asking how the heroic has always and in different contexts been entangled with things.
