On 28 July 2013, the Saarland radio station SR2 KulturRadio broadcasts an interview with Prof. Dr. Michael Butter (Head of Project B4) during an edition of the program Länge Sieben titled "Edward Snowden, a Hero."

UNIversalis, Summer Semester 2013
Freiburg's newspaper for university and higher education, UNIversalis, interviews Dr. Ralf von den Hoff, Spokesperson for the SFB 948, on its central research questions and its field of interest in its issue from the summer semester 2013.

Badische Zeitung, 18 April 2013
In its issue from 18 April 2013, the Badische Zeitung in its article "Kein Held ohne Opfer" (translated "No Sacrifice, No Hero")  reports on the discussions taking place in the US surrounding the new medal for drone pilots. Two members of the SFB 948 are quoted in the article, Prof. Dr. Ulrich Bröckling (Sociology, Project B7) and Prof. Dr. Michael Butter (American Studies, Project B4).

Badische Zeitung, 19 February 2013
On 19 February 2013 the Badische Zeitung reports in an article titled "Der Held im postheroischen Zeitlater" (translated "The Hero in the Post-Heroic Age") on the official opening ceremony of the SFB 948 from 13 February 2013. Stefan Tolksdorf recounts the opening remarks held by the University of Freiburg’s Rector Schiewer, Assistant Director Knorr from the Baden-Württemberg Ministry for Science, Research and Art and Prof. von den Hoff. In addition, Mr. Tolksdorf summarizes the statements made by the participants in the podium discussion.

In February 2013 an article in the FRIAS newsletter Nr. 7 titled "Rückenwind für die Forschung" (translated "Support for Research") reports on the new collaborative research centers with a focus in the humanities at the University of Freiburg: SFB 948 "Heroes – Heroizations – Heroisms" and SFB 1015 "Muße. Konzepte, Räume, Figuren."

WDR 5, 8 January 2013
On 8 January 2013, the regional radio station WDR5 for Western Germany released the podcast on "Alltagshelden" (translated "Everyday Heroes"). Prof. Ralf von den Hoff, Spokesperson for the SFB 948, discusses the significance of everyday heroes referring specifically to the case of Nico Knebel who saved his friend from drowning.
